Fair is a Four Letter Word

I tell my students that “fair is a four letter word”.  I can’t be fair as fair is a poorly defined concept.  I can only attempt to be consistent.  Even then consistent is difficult as inconsistency is often required to handle particular student needs.  To be consistent in those cases would make me a pedantic bureaucrat.
